Saint Petersburg Postmodern Café

The design works two ideas against each other: strict postmodern geometry and soft, warm materials. A reeded terracotta service counter with a pale stone top holds the colour centre of the room, answered across the floor by cream bouclé banquettes and ochre moulded chairs. Tall arched windows open onto the embankment and carry winter daylight deep into the plan, while opal glass globe pendants and mushroom table lamps keep the room warm after dark. The plan separates entry, coffee bar, lounge, window seating and café tables along one continuous line of circulation, with the counter and back bar anchoring the working wall. Materials stay in a narrow register — pale oak boards, travertine and terrazzo tops, walnut pedestals, cane and brass.
